One of the most memorable sports-prototype racers in history, the Sauber Mercedes C9 would come to utterly dominate its competitors in the late 1980's.
With its twin-turbocharged 90 degree 5 litre V8, it set a new speed record at Le Mans, making 247 mph on the Mulsanne Straight.
Our 1/24 scale C9 is a custom-built model based on the highly detailed Tamiya kit. It represents the 1988 Fuji (Japan) 1000 km race version, piloted by noted driver Mario Baldi. Obviously, the most striking aspect of this C9 is its incredible micro circuit paintwork, which this model replicates beautifully. Also notable are the minutely detailed roof mounted radio aerials, drilled disc brakes, turbo-wastegate exhausts, pneumatic bottle jack, and intricate rear wing supports.
This is a truly custom-constructed piece, accompanied by a bespoke base and Perspex cover. It may very well be signed and numbered on the model's underside, but we opted not to dismount it fearing damage. An incredibly eye-catching model for the Mercedes enthusiast or prototype racing collector. Its not likely you'll find another.
