1949 proved to be a seminal year for the fledgling Ferrari factory, as noted driver and importer Luigi Chinetti Sr. drove a total of 23 out of 24 hours to win that year's Le Mans race. His diminutive 166MM Barchetta (Little Boat) was penned by the powerhouse design team at Carrozzeria Touring, and has become over the ensuing years one of the most coveted of all Ferraris. It was truly the car that illuminated Ferrari on the international stage; a position it has never relinquished.

The Ciemme Barchetta presented here is a delightful example of the Italian model maker's art. Full engine detail, lift off bonnet and opening boot, spare wheel and gas filler tube in boot, hand-laced wire wheels and drilled backing plates, all harmonize to lend an air of accuracy and authenticity to this piece. The cockpit features instrumentation with chrome bezels, correct split windscreens, full pedal assemblies, and bolstered racing seats. Even the Roman numerals on the gear shift knob are there! This 166MM represents a great value, in that while not up to the stratospheric standards set by the Creative Miniature Associates model of the same car, it won't set you back $6000.00 either. This Ciemme Barchetta easily compares with the best examples produced in 1/14 scale by Brianza, MG Models, and HE 14. Why not treat yourself to a superb rendition of the 'Ferrari that started it all'.
