By 1968 the Can-Am series of races for prototype sports cars was well developed, and was already being dominated by the McLaren M8 group of cars. As engine displacements increased, the McLarens shot ahead even further. Lola, a British manufacturer of long standing, using high performance Chevrolet engines had been quite competitive in the Can-Am's early years, but by 1968 were relegated to the middle of the field.

Mario Andretti, already a two-time Indy Car champion, was offered a seat in the Ford-powered Lola T70 Mklll, owned by Bignotti Enterprises. Although showing great promise, development on the Andretti Lola was halted due to lack of funds.

The 1:18 scale GMP representation of the car is one that raced at Road America in 1968, suffering a blown engine due to oil loss. The model sports a wealth of detail, especially at such a reasonable price point. The turned air trumpets and 'bundle of snakes' exhausts are the most noticeable at first glance. The light blue metallic pain work is flawless, and the raw aluminum panels in the cockpit add a nice touch of realism. The engine deck lid opens, but we've elected to leave this model in its factory-new condition, with all securing straps in place. The model is perfect and is supplied with factory inner and outer boxes.

The '68 Lola T70 Spyder may not have taken all the laurels, but it certainly was one of the prettiest Can-Am cars ever to grace a racing circuit!
