Jaguar D-Type 1955 Pewter Sculpture

The unmistakable silhouette of the 1955 Jaguar D-Type should be quite familiar to any sports car and racing enthusiast. The sleek and svelte bodywork, accented by the prominent rear vertical fin, combine to create something of a synthesis between automobile and aircraft.

Our heavy pewter sculpture represents the D-Type in action, most likely as it appeared at Le Mans in 1955 driven by Mike Hawthorn and Ivor Bueb (race number 6). There is an obvious sense of implied motion, as the front wheels are posed as though entering a turn, the driver's body leaning inward to counter increasing g-forces.

This piece is a lovely compromise between scale model and interpretive sculpture. The surface is varied, in that most of the sculpture is highly polished, with just a bit of darkening added to accent the details.

The sculpture was created in the U.K. by the same firm which produced the 1938 Mercedes Benz Rekordwagen sculpture previously offered by Aeromobilia. The D-Type is 13 inches in length, by 5 1/4 inches in width. It nicely fits the requirement for a decorative object infused with the enthusiasm for motor sport. Very affordably priced!
